meditation is a good thing, both for concentration and for whole life.
learn about meditation in terms of brainwaves (alpha-beta-teta-delta), to make an impression what it is.

also it worth to practice qigong. most if its technics are meditation-like and about energy loading/redistribution/conversion. i.e. you have a big desire to run, jump and fight, and can't seat and hard to think. in terms of energy qigong says there a lot of low-level energy and a lack of high-level energy. qigong technics helping to gain more high-level energy and to converse/redistribute low level energy into higher level (btw there are 3 main level of energy, 2 opposite kinds and a lot of others, corresponing to different processes in organism).
meditation technics invloves gentle imagination of repeating feelings (no logic constructions, no forced concentration), i.e. imagine pulsating heat, breathe moving through your body and so on, there are many. if other feelings or logical thoughts are coming, the main advices are: not to fight with them, not to follow them, just proceed with repeating feelings. the most fine for me is a skin breathe from qigong.
also meditation is fine to make break after 4-6 hours of concentrated work, and have again about 4 hours of effective work.
usually meditation engages from several minutes to hour, for me it is effective from about 40 min to hour, however some times I can get effect more quickly, some times it is worth to sleep 1-1.5 hours after meditation to achieve next effective period of work.

another option is audio-visual stimulation device (mind-machine). I was using Procyon AVS. It is simple and fine for starting at least for several years.
for binaural and avs it worth to use 2/2 or 3/3 cycles, i.e. 3 weeks training with avs/bb, 3 weeks without (or rest). start with alpha cycle, then beta cycle, then theta. then use as you need (beta - wake up/work, high alpha - work, low alpha, theta - meditation/rest, delta - sleep).
